"Your captive memory of a vision is much more intense than reality. My object is to capture this intensity" - Phill Krammer

- Artist Vision -

My paintings are mindscapes of places that I have in my memory from past visits to the Marlborough Sounds and also the Golden Bay area where I often visit and paint, so they are a collected memory not an actual place.

Whispering Land

I try to capture what would be a visual memory which is more intense than if you were to take a photo and then look at it at a later date, often not satisfied because you believed it to be so much more.

I choose the New Zealand landscape form to show this as I am very proud to have such beauty surrounding us which can often be taken for granted.

I often include in my work elements of texture to signify natural happenings, for example the sand ripples left after the tide has receded, paint surfaces crackled as on an old bach wall weathered by time, leaves to show the passing of a season and that often missed fine line of a distant shoreline or even a piece of bark to touch as you walk through the native forests.

All these ideas have gone into my work and I hope it helps people to understand my art and my vision.
